WindSensei ("we", "us", or "our") provides wind forecast and session tracking tools for kitesurfers, wingfoilers, and other wind sport enthusiasts. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and iOS app.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo. You can sign in with Google OAuth or email-based authentication.

Wind Sport Preferences

We store your sport preferences (e.g., kitesurfing, wingfoiling), skill level, equipment details, and forecast notification settings to personalize your experience.

Session Data from Apple HealthKit

If you use our iOS app and grant permission, we sync workout session data from Apple HealthKit. This may include GPS tracks, heart rate, calories burned, speed, and jump metrics. This data is only collected with your explicit consent.

Social Data

If you use social features, we store your follower/following relationships, public profile information, and live session data that you choose to share.

Device Information

We collect push notification tokens to deliver iOS notifications (daily forecasts, weather alerts). We do not collect device identifiers for advertising purposes.

Usage Data

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns to improve the service.

Browser Geolocation

With your permission, we use browser geolocation to show nearby wind spots. This location data is used in real time and is not stored on our servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide personalized wind forecasts and condition alerts
  • Send daily forecast emails and weather alerts (opt-in and configurable)
  • Enable social features such as public profiles and live sessions
  • Generate AI-powered forecast summaries
  • Improve and develop new features for the service

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate WindSensei:

  • Google — OAuth sign-in, Analytics, and Fonts
  • Apple — WeatherKit (weather data) and APNs (push notifications)
  • Open-Meteo — Weather and marine forecast data
  • Resend — Transactional and notification emails
  • OpenAI — AI-generated forecast summaries

These services may process data as described in their own privacy policies.

4. Data Sharing & Visibility

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Your profile and session data visibility is controlled by your settings:

  • Public profile — Your display name and sport preferences are visible to other users if you enable a public profile.
  • Live sessions — You control who can see your live sessions (followers only or nobody).
  • Searchability — You can control whether other users can find your profile.

5. Cookies & Local Storage

  • Session cookie — Used for authentication. Required for the service to function.
  • Google Analytics cookies — Used for anonymous usage analytics.
  • Local storage — Used to store UI preferences such as temperature units and display settings.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication tokens, and access controls on our database. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

  • Control your session and profile visibility in your account settings
  • Opt out of daily forecast emails at any time
  • Control searchability and live activity privacy settings

8. HealthKit Data

WindSensei integrates with Apple HealthKit to read workout session data. In accordance with Apple's requirements:

  • HealthKit data is not used for advertising or marketing purposes.
  • HealthKit data is not shared with or sold to third parties, including advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers.
  • HealthKit data is only used to provide and improve the core session tracking functionality of WindSensei.

9. Children's Privacy

WindSensei is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised date.
